I Ditched DISQUS
I am sorry to say it but I had to ditch DISQUS. The system has some really great potential and I liked some of the features but it just wasn’t working out.
Probably the main reason I didn’t see the system as a viable option for the future is that their website is blocked from my office so I could only administer comments in the evenings. This wasn’t a huge deal in and of itself but coupled with the other problems I had with the system, it was a deal breaker.
So I have moved on to a much simpler yet working comment system. Commentluv + some additional plugins that make all the functionality I want come together. Maybe some day I will return to DISQUS as their development is pretty steady and they seem to be always improving.
So, check out the new comment system, and maybe leave a comment if you feel like it. I am still running a contest for a free UPrinting glossy poster print so that would be a good place to try out the comment system 😉
Let me know what you think. br>

Pffirewall,
That sounds frustrating, were you not able to view Disqus.com or any Disqus enabled site? Have you tried moderating your comments by email ? Quite a few users utilize this feature, I use it all day.
How do I do this?
You can reply to any email notification in the body of the email with approve, delete, or spam. You may also respond to comments by email too. I hope that helps and if there is anything we can do, just shoot us an email at [email protected].

Giannii,
I appreciate you taking the time to comment here. I did have problems with anything Disqus related while at work. I could comment using a generic name/website on the Disqus enabled websites but I couldn’t log in to Disqus or claim my comments while at work.
It was more frustrating than anything as I had these great community building features of Disqus and they weren’t available 90% of the time I was on the computer.
One key feature that I think is missing from the system is the ability to subscribe to comments.
I do appreciate your support with my earlier issue, which I communicated with you via twitter, and your time.
Interesting, I had a run in with DISQUS in the past myself. It took about a week before a switched. Thanks for sharing your story.

Yea, I tried to give em a bit more of a run so I had contacted them about a few problems, which got fixed within a few days (and honestly one of which was caused by my own unfamiliarity with their system) but I just needed something quicker for visitors and just plain simpler to use.
Thanks for your comment
Disqus… Well Just wonder how we can combat spam ? I been using disqus for a while and was wondering is there a way to integrate recaptcha with it?

I use a combination of akismet and a few other trackback spam plugins to fight it. DISQUS didnt seem to have anything internally
I’ve been thinking about ditching Disqus as well.
I have no problem with it but I’d like to have a bit more customization over it since I can already code.

It’s a pretty good app, like I said but customization isn’t one of its strong points for sure. Good luck!
