Blogging With a Cause: Hunger and Hope

I go hungry every once in a while, not because I have no other choice but because I am lazy or unprepared. How would it feel to go hungry every day because you had no other choice. This blog post is in support of the Bloggers Unite for Hunger and Hope, a call to end world hunger.

There are literally millions of people in the world that are hungry right now. Not because they forgot their lunch or decided to go on a diet, but because they have no other choice. They cannot afford food and because of this, 15 million children die of hunger every year in the world, even in the United States, one of the richest nations on the world.

Heifer International and BlogCatalog members are calling for the end of world hunger. In conjunction with this movement Heifer International is “providing communities with livestock and agricultural training to improve lives and inspire hope”, all through the month of April.

I personally hate being hungry. In the words of George Costanza, “I can feel my stomach sucking up against my back” and that is really not a good feeling. I would hate to have that feeling all the time.

My family already fasts one day a month and donates that money that would have been spent on food to a charitable organization that helps that money reach those in need. To do my part in this call to end world hunger, I will be fasting more than one day a month for the rest of the year and donating that additional money to this organization.

Hopefully my little contribution can reach those in need. I am very happy that I was able to participate in this movement as well.

Check out Heifer International and see if there is anything you can do to help those in need. They have some really cool programs and had a theme for helping others for every day in April. They even had a bunch of people dressed as cows on April Fool’s Day to spread awareness of their organization 😉

With so many hunger deaths taking place how can we just “sit back” and let it happen.Probably an effort in dragging the attention of UN towards this melee could help in getting some relief for the millions who are starving right now even as we are sipping our cup of favorite coffee

I agree, and thats what this post was all about. The organization backing it was trying to bring attention to this issue. I head on the radio today that the Bush administration in the US was not very pro-UN and didn’t really cooperate with their efforts. Maybe with a new president, we will see some results..maybe not. Who knows. But we have to do everything we can as the “little people” around the world and maybe make a difference eventually
