A Brief Personal Update: Where I have been

Here is an update on what I have been up to these past two weeks.

November 8th through November 13th, I was on a business trip for the company I work for. They put me up in a pretty nice hotel, provided meals, etc so I could do some training. The training went well, I learned a great deal about the company and some of their very basic functions, that being in the IT department, I know very little about. They worked me long ours there, so there was very little time to do much else besides train, eat and sleep 🙂 I bet you can guess which part I liked the most.

When I got back, there was some major catching up to do. I am in the last leg of my Bachelor Degree program and classes are pretty intense, missing a good chunk of the week can put me behind.

On Sunday, November 15th, my wife’s Grandpa was taken to the hospital for emergency surgery. He had a ruptured intestine and obviously wasn’t doing very well. The surgery went well they said but gave him a 50% chance of survival. He is still in the hospital until after Thanksgiving I believe, but seems to be recovering fairly well, but with him in intensive care, it was pretty stressful on us all.

During the week of the 15th-18th, I made up some of the regular tasks at work that I had missed and solved a major security problem with my personal email account, but had to go an another trip, a much longer drive but shorter stay, to apply some of the things I was trained on. So Thursday my family and I (they were allowed to come with and stay in the hotel with me) drove the 5 hours to fix some problems with one of my company locations. There were a few snags, but things got taken care of, we had a good time and made our way back home late Friday night. We got home around 10pm due to some late night traffic.

Saturday and Sunday were spent primarily on catching up with school work I missed and we are back to the now!

Sorry for the brief hiatus, but I am back in the saddle and happy to be back into a more normal routine. Up next, a post about my security issue and how you can avoid it!
